Debt Advice

This page is for anyone worried about money — whether that is debt building up somewhere else in your life, or how much you are spending on this site. Free, confidential help exists, and there are things you can change on your own account today. Nothing on this page costs anything.

Free help, from people who do this every day

Every organisation below is free to use, confidential, and completely independent of us. None of them charge you for advice. You do not need to be in crisis to get in touch, and you do not need to have your paperwork straight before you call.

Samaritans will listen to whatever is on your mind, with no judgement and no pressure to talk about anything you do not want to. Free to call, any time of the day or night, on 116 123.

Be careful who you pay for debt help

Search for debt help online and the first results are often companies that charge a fee for something the organisations above do for nothing. Some look official. Some use words like "government", "helpline" or "advice service". They may ask for money up front, sign you up to a monthly payment, or take a cut of what you send to the people you owe.

You never have to pay for debt advice. If anyone asks you for a fee, a subscription or your card details before they have helped you, stop. Go straight to StepChange, National Debtline, Citizens Advice or MoneyHelper instead, and type the web address in yourself rather than following an advert.

What you can change on your account today

If it is what you are spending here that worries you, you do not have to leave the site to take control of it, and you do not have to explain yourself to us to do any of it.

  • Set a spending limit. Choose your own limit per week, month or year under My Account → Play Safe. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately. Relaxing or removing one waits 24 hours, so a decision made in the heat of the moment does not take effect in that moment.
  • Take a timeout. A self-imposed break, from one day up to permanent. Once a timeout is set it cannot be shortened or lifted early by anyone, including us. That is the whole point of it.
  • Close your account. You can delete your account whenever you decide to.

We also do not accept credit cards. You can pay by debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or from your Wallet balance — so nothing you spend here can be put on credit.

There is more detail on all three tools, and on how we watch for signs that things are going wrong, on our player protection page.

Talk to us

If you would rather speak to a person here first, that is fine, and you will not be asked to justify it. Email [email protected] or call 07488895889, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. We will help you set a limit, take a break or close your account, and we will not try to talk you out of any of it.

We are not connected to any of the organisations listed on this page and we gain nothing from naming them. They are here because they are free, they are independent of us, and they are the people worth calling.
