The Kind Spirits Fund
The Kind Spirits Fund turns a penny from every ticket sold on this site into one gift, to one person or family, every month. This page explains where the money comes from, who it can go to, and how to put someone forward.
What the fund is
Every time a ticket sells on this site, 1p goes into the Kind Spirits Fund. Every ticket, on every competition. Not just the winning ones, not just the expensive ones, not just the competitions we happen to be promoting that week.
You do not have to opt in and there is nothing extra to pay. If you buy a ticket, you have put a penny in. If you have never bought a ticket, you can still nominate somebody.
How it grows, and when it is paid
- We put £50 in at the start of every month to open the fund.
- 1p is added every time a ticket sells, all month long, so the total climbs on its own.
- At the end of the calendar month the whole balance is paid out — all of it, however big or small it has grown.
Then it starts again at £50 on the first of the next month. The current total is shown on our home page, so you can see what is in the fund as the month goes on.
Who it goes to
The fund goes to a person or a family. Never an organisation. Somebody having a rough year, somebody who has had bad news, somebody quietly holding a lot together, or simply somebody who deserves a lift.
Anyone with an account can nominate anyone. A neighbour, a friend, someone at work, a member of your family, or yourself. What you have spent with us is completely irrelevant — you do not need to have entered a competition, and entering a hundred of them does not make a nomination any more likely to be chosen. We read them all the same way.
How to nominate
- Sign in to your account.
- Open the Kind Spirits Fund panel on the home page.
- Fill in the short form and send it.
We ask for four things:
- Who you are nominating — their name.
- Why them — a few lines about them and what would help. Plain words are fine. You are not filling in an application, and a longer entry is not a better one.
- Your email address.
- Your contact number, so we can get hold of you if your nomination is the one we choose.
Please only tell us what the person would be happy for us to know.
How we choose
George and Sunny read every nomination that comes in and choose one each month. That is the whole process. There is no scoring and no public vote.
If someone nominates you
We will not publish anyone’s name without asking them first. If a nomination is chosen we get in touch with the person who sent it in — that is what the contact details on the form are for.
The fund in plain words
The Kind Spirits Fund is not a charity and is not collected for the benefit of any particular charity. 1p from every ticket sold on this site is added to it. The whole balance is paid at the end of each calendar month to an individual or family chosen by us from the nominations we receive. Payments are gifts from Spooky Competitions Ltd, not charitable donations.
Separately, and before this fund existed, we gave £679.40 of our own money to good causes including Myton Hospice, Bedworth RFC and Dogs Trust. Those gifts were not funded by ticket sales and are not connected to the fund described on this page.
Questions
If there is anything you want to ask about the fund, or you would like to talk a nomination through before you send it, get in touch. We would rather hear from you than have you not put someone forward.
